300

I was able to read Frank Miller’s comic “300” and it was a nice comic.  But not the one that I will really buy and keep as a personal collection.  I saw the compiled Graphic novel at Greenbelt 3 and it costs 1,500 Php.

The story is about the 300 Spartans led by King Leonidas I who fought in the Battle of Thermopylae against a very strong Persian Army.  “300” is now adopted into a movie.  I love war movies and scenes because of the massive and bloody action sequences just like Braveheart and Lord of the Rings.

The comics was just as bloody.  Art was simple.  Costumes and body are not very elaborate but the coloring done by Lynn Varley complemented the theme of the book.  It gave a gloomy picture that seems to fit the story.

The story of course is not new.  You can search the internet on what happened at the Battle of Thermopylae.  Who won and who lost will be known.  But it was how Frank narrated and draw the comic that made it intersting.  That’s why when I started reading the pages, it gave me renewed interest to have the story retold again.

But why I prefer not to have my own copy is because there’s just a few panels to read and that makes it quite expensive.  Very few dialogues and I can finish the entire series in just an hour.  Maybe someday if I have money to squander, then I will sure grab a copy.

  1. Oh, but the movie was fab. In fact, it should have been called, Hail to the Spartan Ab! A must have, if not for the hot men in loincloths and capes then (this I admit begrudgingly) for the battle scenes. Juuuust kidding.

I was glued to the screen for the entire duration of the movie. Even through Xerxes the Tranny’s schpiel.

A dvd does not cost more than 1500PhP these days, does it?

  2. The comic book looks interesting. But I totally agree with Maxie, hot men + hot abs = hot movie…and why do movies like these appeal so much to the pink community, remember Spartacus? Alexander?

  3. i worked in a comic book store for 2 years and the firt frank miller comic i read” sin city”, i fell in love with his stuff. then 300 was released, and omg it was increadible. at first you think it is dry and emotionless, but thats just the spartan way. i thought the movie was incredible. i spent $21.00 on seeing that movie. and will spend another $20.00 for when it comes out on dvd.

  4. Great website, nice tips, thanks for sharing
